Helping Accomplished Leaders Make the Full Measure of Their Value Understood

For decades, I’ve worked at the intersection of brand, communication, reputation, and opportunity—first helping organizations communicate their value, and now helping senior leaders do the same.

My work is grounded in a simple belief:

You shouldn’t have to become someone else to become more visible. You should become more intentional about making who you already are—and the value you bring—understood.

I learned brand stewardship from the inside

For more than two decades, I served as a marketing communications consultant to a Fortune 500 company, working primarily with two of its businesses.

It was an extraordinary education in how major organizations build, protect, and communicate their brands. I learned to work across functions, cultures, and geographies; to translate complex ideas into clear, compelling messages; and to understand how reputation is built through thousands of decisions made consistently over time.

I was trusted to plan and orchestrate worldwide product launches, develop communications for global audiences, and help create greater brand synergy across businesses. I learned how large organizations work—and how to navigate the competing priorities, multiple stakeholders, exacting standards, and organizational realities that come with corporate life.

Those years shaped how I think about strategy and communication today. They taught me that a strong brand is not simply something you describe.

It is something you steward.

Then, in 2011, corporate downsizing ended that chapter of my career.

And I discovered an uncomfortable irony.

While I had been a careful steward of my client’s brand, I had been a poor steward of my own. My professional network was largely within my former client company. Twenty years of the writing and marketing materials I had created were company-proprietary. Beyond that world, relatively few people knew who I was, what I knew, or what I could do.

So I began applying to myself the same principles of strategic communication and brand stewardship I had spent decades applying to organizations.

The work has grown

What began as a determination to rebuild my own professional presence became a new body of work.

I saw that accomplished leaders were often facing a version of the same problem I had encountered: their capabilities had grown, but the way they were known had not necessarily kept pace.

LinkedIn became an important part of my work because it offered leaders something previous generations never had—a place to make their expertise, accomplishments, relationships, and ideas visible beyond the boundaries of a single organization.

But the work was never just about LinkedIn.

It was, and still is, about communicating our value in the professional world.

Do the right people understand who you are, what you bring, and what matters to you? Does your professional presence reflect the leader you’ve become? Are your expertise, accomplishments, and ideas visible enough for others to recognize the value you can contribute?

Over time, my work has expanded from LinkedIn strategy into executive branding, strategic visibility, influence, thought leadership, executive communication, and the larger question that underlies them all:

How do accomplished leaders make the full measure of their value understood?

I don’t create executive brands. I help reveal them.

The strongest executive brands aren’t manufactured. They are discovered, clarified, and expressed.

That’s why my work begins with listening.

I listen for the patterns that run through a leader’s career. The accomplishments they may have stopped noticing because they came naturally. The values that guide their decisions. The stories that reveal how they lead. The distinctive combination of experience, judgment, strengths, and perspective that makes their contribution uniquely theirs.

Then we make those things easier for other people to see and understand. Sometimes that means repositioning an executive brand. Sometimes it means rebuilding a LinkedIn presence, developing thought leadership, preparing for greater visibility, or clarifying what should come next.

But the objective is never to manufacture an impressive persona.

It is to create greater congruence between the leader you are and the leader the world experiences.

Beyond the Work

I believe accomplished careers—and interesting lives—are rarely built in straight lines. Curiosity has taken me around the world, introduced me to remarkable people, and continually given me new things to learn. It is one reason I love working with senior leaders: by the time someone has spent decades building a career, there is always more to their story than a résumé reveals.

I also believe our value isn’t measured solely by professional accomplishment. Service matters. I serve on the Board of Water to Thrive, an international nonprofit bringing clean water to communities in East Africa that have never had reliable access to it.

And when I’m not working, writing, speaking, or asking someone one more question about what makes them distinctive, I’m happiest spending time with family, traveling, walking, and continuing to discover what I want my own next chapter to include.

Your Experience Has Created Value. Let’s Make Sure It Can Be Seen.

If you’ve grown as a leader but the way you’re known hasn’t kept pace—or if you’re beginning to ask what you want the next chapter to make possible—I’d be delighted to talk with you.
